The Set Man

Numbers 27:16,17      “Let the LORD, the God of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the congregation, which may go out before them, and which may go in before them, and which may lead them out, and which may bring them in; that the congregation of the LORD be not as sheep which have no shepherd.”

1 Corinthians 12:28    “And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, administrations, diversities of tongues.”

In both the Old and New Testaments we see that God desires to “set” someone over His people to lead them in His ways.

Although we call the Set Man (or woman) the Pastor he or she may be any one of the Fivefold Ascension Gift Ministries or Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, Pastor, or Teacher (usually they are one of the first three: Apostle, Prophet or Teacher).

Here are some other Scriptures that point us to

the Set Man in the Old Testament:

Jeremiah 49:19              “Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the habitation of the strong: but I will suddenly make him run away from her: and who is a chosen man, that I may appoint over her? …and who is that shepherd that will stand before me?”

Isaiah 63:11                     “Then he remembered the days of old, Moses, and his people, saying, Where is he that brought them up out of the sea with the shepherd of his flock?…”

Here are some other Scriptures that point us to the Set Man in the New Testament:

Acts 15:13-19                 “And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me… Wherefore my sentence IS that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God:”

Titus 1:4-5                  “To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior. For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:”

Things that the Set Man does:

Numbers 27:16,17      “…which may go out before them, and which may

1.   go in before them,

2.   and which may lead them out,

3.   and which may bring them in;”

Titus 1:4-5      “…that thou shouldest

1.   set in order the things that are wanting,

2.   And ordain elders in every city…”

Exodus 18:19-21           “Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee:

1.      Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

2.      And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt show them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

3.      Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness;

4.      and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

The Jethro Principle:

As the Set Man, Moses received the Vision and had the means to implement it. He made a common mistake and was doing everything himself making sure it was being done right. His father-in-law Jethro came and counseled him…

Exodus 18:19-23           “Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee:

1.  Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

2.  And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt show them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

3.  Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

    a.  And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee,

    b.  but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

4.  If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so,

    a.   then thou shalt be able to endure,

    b.   and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

Moses was a good example:

1.  He was God-ward

2.  He received and revealed God’s Will

3.  He demonstrated the power of God

4.  He had to make decisions

5.  He gathered the people together

6.  He led them out of bondage

7.  He got stuck in the lie that he had to do it all himself

    a.  It was not good for him to be alone in leadership

    b.  He would wear out

    c.  The people would grow weary too

8.  He choose leaders to take care of problems

    a.  He taught them

    b.  He trained them

    c.  He set them over small groups of about 10 people each

Titus was to do the same thing in the Island of Crete as the Set Man over that place.

The leaders (elders) he choose were to implement the vision of God that was given to them through the Set Man.
